Normally being in the "top 5" is a good thing, but not when it comes to taxes! CNBC article "The 15 US states where taxes take the most out of your paycheck" listed Minnesota as in the top 5. US states with the highest tax burdens (cnbc.com) This needs to change and when I am elected I will work to forward Legislation to drastically reduce Minnesota taxes.
Thankfully the MN Legislature agreed to a $4 billion tax relief package that calls for the elimination of state taxes on Social Security income, and a small income tax rate cut, but much more work needs to be done to alleviate the heavy tax burden that Minnesotans bear.
The State of Minnesota is required to pass a “balanced budget” but that budget is too large and continues to grow. None of the recent $9B "surplus" should be added into the budget as that would grow the State of MN budget on an ongoing basis. That means even more taxes would need to be collected to meet the higher number.
K-12 Education in Minnesota is system comprised of Public, Private, Parochial and home schools; as diverse as the families that they serve. All families should be able to choose the best school environment for their child but in many cases they don't have the financial means to do so. Dozens of States have implemented and expanded School Choice programs to provide families with funding for their child's education in the school of their choice. Minnesota needs to be a leader in this area; a win-win for the students and the Education system.
Our children deserve to be protected. We need to implement changes to prevent School Shootings. It seems that immediately all Schools should mandate a single point of entry, with armed Security Guards at the entrance. All other doors should be locked - except for exit in case of fire or other emergency. (The past two School shooters have entered through an unlocked door). School districts should have on staff police analysts that have access to social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc – all the sites that “kids” use) and actively monitor for disturbing posts. The Police should provide analysts since they have the authorities necessary to talk to the parents. If current laws don’t allow that then legislation should be passed that does allow it. We send billions of dollars to foreign countries - surely we can budget to protect our own children.
Since the beginning of time, society has required Law Enforcement. I am grateful for our Men and Women in Uniform who put their lives on the line to protect and keep the peace in our communities. Of course we need to hold them to a high standard, and I will work with them on solutions when situations arise that call that standard into question.

The Declaration of Independence; "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness..."

Regarding Abortion; Cynthia believes that every child is a gift from God and deserves to be cherished and protected, regardless of the circumstances they were conceived in. There is a reason why so many in the ProLife movement are men and women who have suffered abortions. They know firsthand the pain and grief that they have to live with as a result of their abortion and desperately want to help others make a different choice - one that they and their baby can live with. As a Single Mom, Cynthia's heart goes out to men and women in "crisis pregnancy" situations. They need to be surrounded with truth, love and support to choose life for their child. If they choose not to parent the child, there are families waiting to adopt.
Life is sacred and extends to the disabled and elderly also. We need to protect and defend life from conception to natural death.
